June is a busy month here at NYSC. Not only is it Seniors month, but it is also our Open House month. If you have ever wondered what we do here at NYSC or was curious about the classes that we offer, June is your month! There will also be membership specials all month long. If you are a new member, you will get $5 off your membership. If you are a current member and refer your friend to join, you and your friend will both get $5 off your members. For information can be found here.
We will be out at Centrepoint Mall on June 1st doing demonstrations of the different classes that we offer. We will also be, offering tours in multiple languages and showcasing the art that our art classes have produced over the last season. The next Picasso or Monet may come out of NYSC. We will also be handing out free hot drink coupons to our café. Make sure to come out to Centrepoint on Wednesday, June, 1st from 10am-1pm to show your support for the centre. Don’t think that those of you attending the ALC on June 1st will be left out of the festivities. We will be having cookies and tea/coffee in the main lobby, and everyone who signs into my seniors on the 1st between 10am and 1pm will be entered into a draw for a free lunch at the café.
This year the Toronto Challenge is turning 25! By taking part in the Toronto Challenge, you are doing much more than earning bragging rights for running (or walking) 5k in Canada’s busiest and largest downtown: 100% of your fundraising dollars will go directly to North York Seniors Centre, helping to create opportunities for a better life for many—helping older adults stay active, building strong communities, and helping seniors stay in their homes.
Every penny raised goes a long way toward enhancing lives in your community.
If you cannot make it downtown on the 12th, join us on our alternative dates at the Active Living Centre: Tuesday, June 14th at 10am and Sunday, June 19th at 2:30pm.
World Elder abuse awareness day is on June 15th. On this day, we promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect. We will have an information table set up in the lobby of the ALC on Wednesday, June 15th from 10am-4pm. We will have professionals present between 10am -1pm to answer any questions you may have. Purple ribbons for Elder Abuse Awareness can also be picked up.
Get in the PRIDE spirit and play some LGBTQ bingo to win great prizes sponsored by Dignity Memorial. On June 22nd from 6-7pm everyone is welcome to enjoy delicious refreshments and an entertaining spin on Bingo! Let's celebrate inclusively, diversity and all older adults!
Finally on the last day of June, we are having a BBQ to celebrate this great country of ours. On June 30th between 111:30am to 1:00pm, we will be having a Canada Day BBQ lunch. All your BBQ favourites will be present, as well as Canada Themed décor. Come join us to wrap up open house month , and kick off summer!
